Se7en - Character representations

Hello readers, welcome back to Mojidoji Blog this time I will be continuing from last post about location and setting of Se7en. However it is not the same, instead today I will be talking about the characteristic of Mills, Somerset and John Doe by analysing the following clips.






MILLS
·      Emotional- passion
·      Loving, caring, kind, gentle, loving with his wife. - Loving to his dog in energetic way (rolling around with his dog)
·      Mad
·      Angry
·      Acts on impulse “ feeding off emotion” < do something with madness and didn’t think carefully
·      Aggressive – kick down the door of his suspect, he shouts, swears
·      Violent – physically pushes photographer down the stairs
·      Impatient!
·      His crime is “wrath”

·      Confident! He believes in himself that he can fix the problems. “HERO” Change the way things are – make it different

SOMERSET
·      Keeps a grip on his emotional
·      Rational – “ people don’t care therefore you don’t care about people”
·      Patient
·      Neat / precise – he set up his clothes, pick fluff off jacket, cleans coffee jug, lays out wallet / badges / knife (very precisely)
·      Jaded Cynical
·      CALM – thinks things through consequences
·  Quitting – “the world is messed up”APATHY - Police fix, clean up (cant be done)



JOHN DOE
 
John Doe has all characteristics that Mills and Somerset have.

Se7en - Setting and Location

Se7en

The main characters in this movie are:

o   Brad Pitt  = Detective Mills
o   Morgan Freeman  = Somerset
o   Kevin Spacey  = John Doe
o   Gwyneth Paltrew = Tracey


Outside the crime scene






In a city (inner city) – streetside (built up area) > Poorer area, old buildings > High rise (CONVEMTIONAL AREA FOR CRIME)
Environment look very 90s, it looks old and decrepid
 Busy – Sound of cars, many people hustle bustle
Unsafe – Diegetic sound of siren, dead body being carried out
Rainy – Cloudy, gloomy, oppressive
 It looks trashy/ cheap/ old/ depressing – garbage around 
Color pallete – Green, brown, grays
Aggressive – Man pushes passed
No manners – A man cut in the middle of Mills and Somerset
