EVALUATE USE OF TECHNOLOGY

Thank you for watching.

This is my skill before I learn about media studies, to be honest, I know very little about everything especially visual FX and Editing, those are my weakest skills. I used to dislike editing and Photoshopping, I found it very complicated and difficult. I had heard about codes and conventions before but I did not know what it was and what does it really means, same as camera work, I use camera everyday but it was just to take photos and selfies or random videos, not of those are serious.
Media had thought me a lot in many things I had learned a lot about everything I know more about all the things in the list above. The most I had leaned was the creative confidence. I am the kind of the person who seems very alert, friendly and shy less but in reality I was not it is just the look but inside I am very shy, I always shake, however after a lot of productions we made through out the year now I became more confident and more skills. This is what I graded myself after media studies course.

From what I think after I saw the film opening my group had created, I think it is target specifically at Thai teenagers and male adults as I had did some research in evaluation number 3. I think it would also attract to those people whom interested in Thai dancing or Thai cultural. However considered as whole world it would be a niche market of audience.
The film we made is based on many movies combined together mixing bits and bits each one plus our ideas and things we want to show that represent Thailand from our point of view. Moreover most of the movies we use as an inspiration are Thai movies. Thai thriller and horror movies are mostly based on women’s life until they passed away and their spirits that affect the people who are alive. Most of the time that the ghost mess with the people are because of something they have in common, such as, boyfriend, their hair, their clothes (second handed), their cars, their habitats or shelters and the symbolism that represent them in some ways, it could be types of tree or flowers. These are the most common things that happened to relate with the spirit of the past away people in Thai movies. I found Thai films quite successful with uses of protagonist and the symbolism of objects.
As you can see, we had use the flower as well in our opening and it is our main objective. Talking about the mainstream blockbuster, it might not as much as Hollywood but I am very sure that it is a mainstream blockbuster to Thai audience and Thailand. In Thailand it is not as expensive or as fantasy as Hollywood it is just a movie that everyone watch them a few times and still like it and not bored and talk about it everywhere in the country, even when the DVD comes out it is still popular. Surely, the producer have to receive a lot of profit from it, if it is very good then it will be send out too other countries in Asia, mostly sent out to China (it happened before in the past).

The following pictures are the movie that had gone crazy in China and distributed by a distributor company call GMM Grammy.

On the left is Chinese version and on the right is Thai version.

The picture above this sentence is also another  picture from the same movie. This time there is something different, on the right is an original picture that is made and promoted by the film but on the left it is a picture of a group of people who tried to post the same as the original.
These is how much the Chinese people love our movie.
However this movie is a comedy romance it does not have anything to do with my film.

As my teacher said, “different types of film get distributed in different ways”. By this it could be Blockbusters (mass market) or smaller films (movies exhibition, film festival) or even online downloaders.
For the film that my group had created I think it matches with the smaller film as if it is for the film festival or exhibition or for online only. I do not think that it is suitable with the blockbusters since we are new to the production and we still need to be improve on many things therefore blockbuster is not a good idea it might just be a waste of money. On the other hand if we keep improving and learn it more, one day we might be able to produce a blockbusters.
There are a few ways we could advertise our film nowadays, on the internet, social networks, billboard, posters, television, magazines and a lot more but to make it safer and guarantee that the producers or production company will make it well known for sure is to establish the film to the film distributor. If their product have pass the standard of the company they will advertise it for the production company so basically the production company will be hand free from advertising expenses by this it also safe cost for the producers. On the other hand the produces might not get 100 percent profit from what they make because the distributors will take part of the profit.
From my point of view I don’t think our group will need to use film distributor we are not even a filmmaker company. I think we should just advertising it by send out trailers on the internet, YouTube and social network, I think that is enough.

GMM Grammy is one of the biggest distributor companies in Thailand, with the help from this company my film might be improved and publish in a better place as in cinema or more well known. The film might get awarded if it is very good or get to be shown in Thailand ceremony conferences. With the company’s marketing strategies, they might bring us to success not only domestically but might also be globally.

One another important factor of part of advertisement is seasonality, seasonality are when sales of product are affected by the changes in season. For thriller and horror movies I think it would be most appropriate if we release them in October where Halloween start since people will be participating and have inner feeling about this type of spirit anyways therefore I think it is more appropriate. It would help people to be more interested in the film too since it matches the theme of what is actually happening.

Evaluation 3

These movies are the movies that have some part similar to my opening and it had inspired us some ideas. They are:
Saw -> blood, people fainted
Se7en -> killer, blood
Annabelle  -> the killer keeping up with the predator started with some warnings then back again with dead predator.
Ouija -> murder an innocent, unknown of the killer/ ghost, there is something that causes the ghost to be there.
Unfriended -> the unknown for the predators!
Sinister -> the ghost has its target, for this movie it is children and for our movie it is teenage girls.

Overall conclusion from the results I had received from YouGov it turned out to be mostly male between the ages of 40-54. Also, most often social grade that I had as a result it came out to be ABC1, which I think they are businessmen with medium wages. I think if we only targeting this market we might not get a lot of money. I think in order to get more people to want to watch the film we will have to open up the target market. We will have to expand the target market by making the film more interesting to the female and for all ages. This would help us get more audiences. However for this film opening we are mainly targeted at thai teenagers or the foreigners who are interested in Thai national cultural

Evaluation 2
There are 2 main characters in our film opening, one is representing the past and another is representing modern day. Both are ladies and they are teenagers.

Figure1.1

Figure1.2
Figure1.3
Figure1.4

The pictures above are the pictures from the opening of the olden day girl who is sad, depressed and upset as you can see in the eye of the girl in figure1.1, the close up of her face. The reason we put in half of her face and showing only her eyes is to create some intension to audiences that this girl is the main character and she had gone through something that no one knows what it is until you watch the movie. By this the character will get to express the emotions through her eyes. Also, you might realize the colors in each scene that she appears, it is always dull or dark or a little lack of colors. Figure1.2 shows the way she dressed, she had white t-shirt on with original Thai dancing pants. This is how most Thai dancers wear when they are practicing their dance.
For figure 1.3 we had zoomed up and focus on the hand, if you look at it carefully she is wearing a ring on her ring finger and holding a flower and places her hand on the side of the sala bench and bring it across to the end of the bench. This scene is to show that she has some emotion towards the flower and it links with the ring.
Lastly, figure 1.4, our group had put it together the girl, the flower and the sala, to show that it links up together and it is where everything happened and took place. The scene after the picture is the title, which we focus at the flower and the sala.

The sound in this opening is mostly original Thai song however at first it was started with bird tweeting sound then added with wind after a few seconds the bird chirping stop and substituted with original Thai dancing song. We had cut between the past and nowadays by having a short clip of bird walking and by that time the song is coming to the ending. On the other hand, the sound of wind did not stop at all; it had been played all along, just very quietly. Our group had decided to start off the modern days with technological devices and the only thing we could think of were laptop and iPhone, as it is shown in figure 2.1. The phone is not only used to make the scene look modern but it is also part of our plan that we planned to get the modern girl distracted. When she answer the call she walked out of the sala we paned the camera around to show the buildings so that the audiences would see that the environment and the buildings are developed. Surprisingly when she came back there is a flower on her work, then she picked it up and look around to see whom it belongs to. Anyhow, there was no one nearby that could have put the flower on the table for her plus she went out for a short period of time, it is quite impossible to have a person done that for her beside…
After all she ignored who given her the flower and thought of smelling the flower since it has a very good smell and it looks pretty. When she smells it there is a little coincident between her and the olden day that they had done the same thing at the same place, beside when the olden day girl did it she was bleeding, shown in figure2.4. After that, she got out of breath and die.

Figure2.4

The olden day girl basically a ghost who got pressured and very upset because she lost her beloved boyfriend who chose another girl who is richer, younger and prettier and ditched her. After she suicide herself from this depression she had turned into a monster mean girl, all she want is to be the most powerful, she wanted to revenge by kill all the girl that is pretty so the boy would miss her and want her back.
As you might realize this is a little bit like snow-white movie, which are Snow White with the seven Dwarfs, Snow White and the Huntsman and the last one that I could think of, Mirror Mirror. It is similar because the witch wants to kill snow white because she wants to be the most beautiful lady in the town.
Since the olden day girl is compared with mean witch therefore the modern day girl will be an innocent snow white.
To be honest this is 100 percent coincident, at first we did not want to base on this movie, we were asked to do thriller but it came out to be the same, which I am quite proud of.

Sub genre

Good afternoon readers, our tasks for this term is to create a short clip about 5 sub-genres of thriller, psychological, film noir, crime scene, political thrillers and spy thrillers. To be honest at first I have no clue at all about sub-genres but because before we get to start on this project our teacher asked us to provide Google Slides about each sub-genre. For each sub-genre we have to find background information, special conventions and examples. After making slides I have learned deeply about each sub-genre and hope to provide short clip that would show some of them.

First we as the whole group thought of having all sub genre, we want to make it unique from others because none of our classmates use all sub-genres on their film.
We started off by think about what we want to do to represent each sub-genre.

For psychological thriller, it gave us an idea of detective.
For film noir, it is represented by black and white colour in the scene.
For crime thriller is suspense, not clear solution (crime).
For political thriller is an argument between detector and crime.
For spy thriller, we have spy.

We had planned our ideas and story into the storyboard.

First page is going to be how we start it. We want to start with a lady is being questioning by the investor because they think she is a murder. Second box is showing the time moving forwards to show that the investing is going on for quite a while. Third box is to cut from present to the past to show the audiences of what had happened and why the lady is being investing.

This second page shows what is happening in the past.
It is about a boy who is totally in love with a girl, one day the walk up to a room to have romantic moment but unfortunately the girl he is actually making romance with is not his girlfriend instead his girlfriend double ganger. She is a little psychopath and does not like guys for the unknown reason therefore she killed the guy.
However the lady investing room has no idea that she has double ganger.

Lastly, the last piece of the paper is the ending.

We worked so hard on it.
I hope you like and enjoy the masterpiece we had made for you.

film opening 2

After we discussed about the names we want our film to be we then start making it right away.

After a week we came back with the video that we had put together and show them in the classroom. None of us had 100 percent finished by that time therefore we just go with what we have. After each video we need to write down feedbacks and give it to each group so we know the opinions others have on our project. It is also to prove that others understand what we are trying to show.

These are the feedback we had received.
